Hi, this short e-leaflet is to give an appraisal on the types of the most commonly used commercial tyre cutters and an insight into getting the best cutter to complete your job with a new or used cutting tool …….................................................................................................................

Type 1/ RESCUT Mk3 Twin Heat Cutter, (Made in England).... At a very competitive price, this is a top notch and very reliable cutter and I have no hesitation in recommending this high quality tool, it is less than 2 kilo in weight with an improved variation on the cutting head, the heads can now be changed without dismantling the tool, the jaws will take blades of most makes and sizes, easy operation with rear push action to the handle and is well capable of cutting from racing slicks to heavy duty HGV tyres, power supply 220/240v or 110v it is also ideal for site work as the main transformer uses only 100 watts so can be used with a small inverter and a 12 or 24 volt battery, Ideal for trackside slicks or HGV site work   .....................................

Type 6/ PS15 Standard & PS15 Truckstar (Made in France)

This commercial cutter can have a 4 or 5 heat setting switch, later models have a variable heat switch with settings from 1 to 100 ( you will never need this amount of settings) blade heats when pressure is applied to the tyre, will cut from race slicks to HGV with ease

Again the cutter will take a verity of blades and the blade holder and jaw block are very sturdy, total weight 7 kilo hand gun weight is less than 1 kilo, this lighter weight gun is ideal for high continuous usage, 220/240v or 110v

(4 & 5 heat models very reliable, Truckstar with 00-99 settings reliable but costly to repair))

Type 7/ Rema Tip/Top Rubber Cut (Made in Germany)

Again this cutter is for use on commercial tyres to racing slicks, it is very sturdy has 4 heat settings, (no more needed) although later models have a high & low switch making 8 different heats, similar slide action as the (PS15) to heat the blade, total weight is about 8 kilo and the heavy duty cutting gun is less than 1.5 kilo making it ideal for prolonged use even though the low voltage cable is not quite as flexible as the (PS15), it will take all sizes of blades with easy fitting,.. 240v or 110v

Type 8/ Rillfit4 (Was in Germany) No longer in production

RILLFIT4 is another German cutter, it has 4 heat settings and is generally regarded as top of the tree, it does the same job as all the others in much the same manor and the low voltage cable is more flexible than the (tiptop) it is ideal for long continuous use with the same slide action as the above to supply heat to the blade, total weight is around 7 kilo and the sturdy gun and jaws are less than 1.5 kilo, will take the same verity of blades, 240v... or 110v

...............................................................................................

Type 9/ Rillfi6 (Is the upgrade of the Rillfit4)

RILLFIT6 is as the rillfit4 above but has a different transformer set up and an auto thermal cutout, It has a strong case and the heat settings are similar to the Rema Tip Top, (much better than the old 4 button setup of the Rillfit4) difficult to give any indication of the reliability of it at the moment but it does seem to be very good to work with.... Recommended blades .... Rescut or Pro-Cut.

The RILLFIT6 has been on the market for a few years now, all early reports are good with few complaints or downside to its use and reliability from most of its users.... CT

There are other makes out there and if you need info on any of these please let me know, I will then do my best to help,

Perhaps you may wish to hire before making a commitment to buy as it does require a little perseverance on the operators part to pick up the art of the perfect cut, or you only use one occasionally and buying one to sit around most of the year is not a very wise use of your resources.
